STRENGTH & CAPABILITY
What is your strength for?
The weight on the bar is one measure. The life you can take part in is the bigger picture.
“Be the strongest man your family knows.” It’s one of the ideas at the heart of Ageless Warrior. But it needs a little explanation.
I don’t mean winning a lifting competition at the next family gathering. Nobody needs you turning Christmas into a combine test.
I mean becoming a man people can count on. Physically capable, mentally present and willing to take responsibility. A bigger ambition than looking good in a photograph.
Bring it into everyday life.
Think about the things you want to keep saying yes to. The walk. The trip. The job that needs doing. Getting down on the floor and joining in instead of watching from a chair.
These aren’t universal targets. Your life, interests and circumstances are your own. That’s the point. Strength should have a purpose that matters to you.
A number in a training log can be useful. But it isn’t the whole answer to the question, “What am I building this for?”
Dependable doesn’t mean invulnerable.
There’s a version of strength that looks suspiciously like refusing to admit you’re human. Never ask for help. Never acknowledge a limit. Carry everything alone.
That isn’t the standard I’m asking you to chase. Knowing when you need support is part of being responsible. So is listening, keeping your word and being there when it would be easier to disappear into your phone.
Your physique doesn’t establish your worth. The way you show up for people matters, too.
Choose a destination worth the work.
Looking better can be part of what you want. There’s no need to apologise for that. Just don’t stop the conversation there.
What would more capability make room for? Who would experience the difference? What would you be pleased to still be doing years from now?
Those questions give the work some meaning beyond the mirror. Not preserving a photograph of the man you used to be. Building a life the man you’re becoming can take part in.
